About Us

About Us

PlayPeace is a registered charity ( SCIO51902) founded by parents of kids with additional support needs. Proudly parent led, we offer opportunities for fun, friendships and support all year round through various programmes of activity.

Families of any child or young person with additional support needs (diagnosed or undiagnosed) can attend, along with brothers and sisters. A responsible adult or carer is required to attend the sessions with their children or young people.

We are at present a small but ambitious charity, offering quality services that set out to remove all barriers to participation . We don’t have our own base, instead hiring out various community venues where we offer our services.

We are grateful to our funders: Shared Care Scotland, the Peoples’ Health Trust, Scottish Government Carer breather funding and generous local business C & J ER Consulting Ltd for ongoing support, as well as individual donations received which allow us to offer highly subsidised activities and programmes. We also benefit from ongoing support from the wonderful Community Champion Kylie Barrie, of Tesco Bellshill.

Our Story

The absence of safe places and opportunities for children with additional support needs in North Lanarkshire was identified by parents, and a pilot summer holiday weekly club was parent led and run in summer 2016 to address this need.

By the end of the summer, with over twenty participating families having attended regularly, a committee was formed to build from these beginnings.

Over time , the services developed and grew based on the feedback of families and the need for the children and young people to maintain the friendships they had formed.

By summer 2019 PlayPeace offered a play session monthly, regular subsidised full day outings in school holidays and had identified the need for a programme of parent and carer support

By summer 2022 we applied to become a charity, recognising that in order to sustain and grow, the next step was to formalise our organisational status and work further towards our ambitions.

We became a SCIO in August 2022, and in December 2022 recruited our Chief Executive Officer.
