- It is possible to get door and window sensors which beep when opened to alert you to your child leaving a room (or opening a window). There are a range of styles and brands available. - Some parents have chosen to use dog gates instead of baby gates as their child has grown as these tend to be taller (standard gates are approx. 73cm high).

- Some other parents have tried two gates on top of each other to block a larger section of the doorway, or installing a dutch door where the top and bottom are in separate sections so the bottom door can remain closed and the top open for sound and light.
